Exit 113 off US 86/17 W
Follow State Route 206 to Harley Road, Wurtsboro, NY
When you are just getting on to I-86 aka 17 west, you can see it. It looks like a giant marsh (which it is). You are descending a hill and the valley opens up. It’s a hint that you are heading somewhere special. If you get off on Exit 113 and follow Route 206, you will find it. Cross at Harley Road. Stop there. You will be impressed.
It’s never too late to become a bird nerd. When I was a girl, I remember my friends joking about Ann Catherine’s parents being birders. She joked about it too. I had grown up loving birds but kept quiet (Elisabeth the Birdwatcher was a favorite book). Fast forward a few decades and there I was in Central Park with a posse of bird nerds. So, when I found Bashakill, I was WOWed. All you need are some binoculars and maybe Sibley’s Guide to identify the flood of warblers and migrating waterfowl.
