In 2018, I published the first edition of Farm Girl's Guide to Getting Lost & Found in the Catskills. It covered every single town in Sullivan County, NY. When I started the project a couple of years earlier, the folks I knew who lived or had second homes up here NEVER went out. In the summer, I would invite a pick up truck load of friends to join me for lunch (at Samba) and a little shopping spree (at Global Home) in Jeffersonville. It took a lot of convincing.
At the time, perhaps there were not enough shops or eateries around to inspire a spontaneous little road trip, but over time more stuff popped up. And when it did, I would write about it. Ultimately, I complied an on-line guide on xoxofarmgirl.com that included over 200 posts that covered where to stay, where to eat and drink, where to shop and what to do. It's a veritable bucket list that will guide you to explore back roads and small towns with a safety net and it leaves enough out that you will discover your very own spots too.
In addition to the guide, I published a comprehensive map of the county with pinpoints of all the special places. It is now in its second printing (thanks to a very enthusiastic patron!). Please let me know if you would like a copy. They are free.
Now I run into people all the time who tell me how much they love exploring up here. They have caught the "getting lost and found" bug. I am pretty certain that I contributed to this. Just saying.
Originally, I had intended to cover not only Sullivan County but also Delaware, Ulster, Green and highlights from a few more northern counties that include parts of the Catskills. It is a lot of work! I insisted on covering every town with at least one entry.
I have not forgotten this intention. Instead, I took a little break, but I am ready to get back to it and I hope that you will help me. How? I would love for you to contribute to the guide. It's pretty easy, really. Just pick a town in Delaware County and write a review of a place. Here's how:
NAME OF PLACE
A short paragraph that covers what it is and why it's special.
That's it. Who's with me? Who's ready to get lost down a country road? I can hear you raising your hands from here. You can do one place, one town, something you know about already or something you find especially for this assignment. I can just see it when it's done... all the treasures of Delaware County with a list of amazing contributors. You!
Below are a list of the towns. Let me know where you want to start! I am looking forward to working together on this.
