Lew Beach, NY
Smaller than a one-horse town, this hamlet is the gateway between Livingston Manor and Hardenburgh (Ulster County). Blink and you’ll miss it. The scenic drive down Beaverkill Road leads you to the volunteer Fire House on the right and the Mobile Station and General Store on the left. Stop in on the weekend and say hello to Florence, the doyenne of the old-fashioned gas pumps, the store’s groceries and antiques upstairs.
When you pass through this tiny hamlet, especially on a snowy winter’s day, sing a round of “White Christmas,” as Irving Berlin penned this world-famous holiday song just around the corner from here.
