With a history entwined around the D&H Canal, which opened in 1828 and ran for 60 years, Highland (named as such for its elevation over the Delaware River) ferried timber from here to Philadelphia for ship building until the mid-1800s.
Highland includes only four hamlets: Barryville, Eldred, Highland Lake and Yulan.
Where do we go from here?
From Highland, head to these other towns and their hamlets. Easy direct driving routes. Ask your GPS or get out your map.
Bethel: Woodstock history and modern day concerts await, as well as fun on White Lake and amazing pizza. Go north.
Lumberland: You will find Handsome Eddy lounging on the shores of the Delaware River here. Very scenic. Head east.
Tusten: Home of Narrowsburg and lots of home stores and The Heron. Make your way west.
Let me know what else you find in the little town high above the Delaware River!
