To me, Fallsburg is all about the hamlet of Hurleyville. Its story alone is worth a visit. But the passion and the creativity in that hamlet are something to behold too. Right between its two bigger sisters, Monticello and Liberty, Hurleyville played a role in the Borscht Belt era with its starring Columbia Hotel. Now, taking on a new role in the Catskills, Hurleyville has a beautiful renaissance story (read it in The Inside Scoop).
Fallsburg also includes the hamlets of Fallsburg, Glen Wild, Hasbrouck, Loch Sheldrake, Mountain Dale, South Fallsburg and Woodbourne, and the village of Woodridge. See this for a distinction... fun facts!
Where do we go from here?
From Fallsburg, head to these other towns and their hamlets. Easy direct driving routes. Ask your GPS or get out your map.
Neversink: Visit the hamlet of Grahamsville, two covered bridges and check out the mighty Neversink reservoir. North.
Mamakating: Check out the bird migrations in the Bashakill and its eponymous winery. South/southeast.
Thompson: Need for speed? Raceways are here. And casinos. Head south/southwest.
Liberty: Come on over for cute antique shops, the Tractor Supply Store, plus Yiasou Cafe. Go east/northeast.
Ulster County: Head to the town of Wawarsing and the hamlet of Ellenville. Another county to the east.
With these suggestions in your pocket, you will not have to criss-cross the Catskills to find more fun. You know you love me ...
